| "It means that you were subjected to sadistic acts by people who deliberately tried to brainwash you to feel very bad about yourself in order to make you dependent on them, to keep you in the group. It may mean that you suffered more than other survivors of child abuse because you experienced more horror. It may also mean that your mistrust of people, God, and the universe is greater because so many people in your childhood world were abusers. But no matter what they did to you or made you do, it does not mean that you are bad or that you cannot heal. People who have been abused are filled with hate. Because they hate themselves, they hate everyone and everything. Since they were helpless at the hands of their abusers, they sometimes unconsciously copy their abusers' behavior and become like them in order to feel a sense of power. The major part of your healing is realizing that everything the group made you believe is a lie. You believed your tormentors were powerful and had magical powers--Lies. You believed the group could destroy that essentially good, innocent part of you--your very soul--Lies. You believed no one could possibly love you if they knew--Lies. You believed you would hurt yourself or others if you told--Lies. It's all Lies. When you learn about the real world, then you can decide what kind of life you want to have. You now have the power to choose. Some people say that you must go through darkness to see the light. And perhaps the more darkness we go through, the more light we are able to see." |
